House C

Location: Shihlin, Taipei
Year: 2007-2009
Site Area: 1,000 m2
Building Area: 300 m2

The 300m² house sits in a terraced neighborhood located on the western slope of Yang-Ming Mountain, with a view towards the Tam-Shui River and the distanced mountains. The house is designed with different apertures to receive the splendid view.

The house has a tripartite composition. Two heavy masonry blocks bracket a central open zone. The centre zone is light and transparent in nature with public functions, living/dinning area of the first floor and the family den on the second floor. The spatial quality is loft-like with clear views to the river. The two heavy blocks are spatially more private and contemplative. They provide rooms for the kitchen, sitting room, and guest bedroom on the first floor with the master bedroom suite and two additional bedroom suites on the second floor. Tying the heavy and the light elements together is a metal balcony that is both a shading device and extension of the interior spaces.
